Backlog Busting – My January 2023 Watches

Hey all, I’m back with another (hopefully) interesting post, and it wasn’t several months between the last one this time! it’s a Backlog Busting post this time, but with a little bit of a different, shorter format than before!

I didn’t really have anything really thought-invoking this past month of anime watching, but that doesn’t mean that these shows weren’t talking about! Not everything has to be the next Evangelion of anime after all, plus I like sharing my thoughts about shows in a more open, fun way sometimes, so I thought this would be a great way to do it!

Thus, this format was born: a new form of Backlog Busting post! I hope that this format works a bit better for when I’m watching shows that I have a bit less to say about, but still want to give them a mention and talk a little about them, for better or for worse!

So, let’s start diving into these shows then!

A Backloggers ??? Year Anniversary – “Are We Dead?”

“Uh-oh! The Backloggers have released a ‘we are finally quitting the blog’’ post after almost two years, they’re officially done-zo.”

…Or maybe that’s what we wanted you to think!

Well, we can talk about all that in a minute. Still, there’s a lot to own up to since we basically went the whole hog in releasing a bunch of content regularly and then just stopped dead in our tracks after a brief hiatus (which let’s be honest, we do tend to have a lot of) and announcing Mythos’ break from the blog for some time.

That brings us to why you’re probably reading this post to start with. Let’s sum up the next several paragraphs briefly: Tofu and Owningmatt (myself) will be the regular/primary contributors to this blog for the foreseeable future, even though the content might be less often than it was in previous years. Mythos is still going to be on hiatus until he wants to come back, as the reality of these times is that life stuff just happens, which is just the reality of the situation for all of us as things have obviously changed a lot since we created this blog seven years ago back when we had all the free time in the world in college.

The Backloggers 6th Year Anniversary – Step By Step

Wow! It’s not 2020 anymore, and we’re still here! We hope that you’re still here too!

Let’s be honest, it’s been a rough year for all of us due to the various amounts of things going on in the real world, but that doesn’t mean that it was all bad either. We hope that you’ve at least had some good moments that have stuck out in your memory which will hopefully push some of the worst things out of your mind when looking back upon the year.

Unlike the past anniversary posts and in the same spirit as last years (which I will get into more detail about shortly), this one will be brief and condensed, sort of showcasing what will be upcoming throughout the year, celebrating some successes, and throwing out some announcements as well.

Trash Your Backlog: or, the Joy of Not Choosing

I have an anime problem.

Specifically, I have a problem with watching anime from my backlog. Years ago, when I had just gotten back into watching anime in earnest, anime felt like a wide open world, filled to the brim with all sorts of series that I would jump at the opportunity to watch. Now, years later, the situation is exactly the same – there’s tons of shows out I would love to watch, and the list only continues to grow. That, unfortunately, is where the anime problem comes in. Unsurprisingly, as part of the Backloggers, I do have a bit of a backlog of anime that I would like to watch at some point in time. I’ve been able to chip away at it, to be sure, but recently, I’ve encountered this issue where I look at my backlog, and I internally just grind to a screeching halt. What do I even watch from this list? What do I dedicate my time to? How can I possibly choose something from all of this?

That, friends, is where my secret weapon comes in. What’s the best way to choose a show and chip away at your backlog?

Don’t.

The Backloggers 5th Anniversary — The Rebuild™

Another year has come and gone and we at the Backloggers find ourselves at our anniversary for this blog.  We’ve definitely seen more active years in the past, but we got to try out a few new ideas and were invited to participate in some very fun and interesting new experiences.  As is usual, we’d like to look back on what we were up to this last year, but also what we’ve learned and can do better.

Rather than our more wordy approaches in the past, we’ve decided that we want to refine the anniversary post, as well as all our future content, and make it a lot more manageable for us.  The plan is to be consistent and streamlined as we dedicate ourselves to doing better this coming year. So how about we begin with what we were up to this past year?

The Backloggers — Anime of the Decade Post Announcements

Hey y’all, it’s ya bois from The Backloggers here.

As y’all know, it’s nearing the end of 2019 (thank god, am I right?) and with the end of 2019 comes the end of the decade). Anime has undergone some pretty drastic changes since the beginning of the decade as well, in terms of amount and style. Seasonal anime has become a larger thing than ever in recent years, and the anime community has grown to a size that I never would have expected. There have been plenty of revolutionary shows in the meantime as well, some even being large game-changers of the medium as a whole.

The Backloggers Blog Update: AKA, A Letter to Irina’s “Blogging Breaks” Post

Note: I’m starting off this post by saying that this is my no means to be any reflection of the other members of the Backloggers. This is solely my thoughts on this topic alone. Although this post will talk about general blog updates and general impressions of the blog, I obviously cannot speak for anyone but myself and my opinions on the subject at hand.

This post will probably be the longest post I’ve ever written, but I think this will offer some explanation and insight behind our blog here at The Backloggers, and also explain some of our recent behavior (or lack thereof). So, I encourage you to read this post as a sort of response to Irina’s “Blogging Breaks” post on Karandi’s blog, although it won’t directly pertain to the content in that post, along with some of the stuff that’s been happening with this blog.

The Backloggers 4th Anniversary – The Ride Never Ends

It’s that time again, folks. The Backloggers Anniversary has rolled around again, and I honestly can’t believe we’ve been doing this 4 years at this point. Granted, we’ve had our ups and downs in terms of activity and the first year of starting up really doesn’t count anyway, but hey, at least we can say that we’re still doing it and still intend to continue doing it for a while. So no worries about us going anywhere anytime soon; we’re here to stay!

We’ve got a lot of ground to cover with this year’s anniversary post, so let’s just go ahead and get right to it!

April 2018 Monthly Content Round-up

Another month of anime has passed which means it’s time for a whole bunch of articles talking about all dat sweet, sweet animation goodness.  Interestingly, it hasn’t all been about this current season, with a wide spread of really great stuff about classics as well as seasons past. Some good stuff here on top of the already active discussions on the current season and all the new anime coming out.  It’s a fun time to be an anime fan, really. Even if we argue over the specifics, it’s great to see so many different opinions all wanting to celebrate a really great and interesting medium. Let’s dive into some of ‘em!

March 2018 Monthly Content Round-up

Here in the continental United States (at least on the east coast), March has been a pretty frigid, unpredictable season for us. However, it seems that the Aniblogger community has been heating things up to balance that out this month! We’ve got some hot posts about topics from all across the board, it seems, ranging from this season’s big picks like Violet Evergarden and Yuru Camp, to a postmortem for musical group Kalafina, to some important, current discussions about our larger anime community as a whole, and how we can look to shape ourselves and our perspectives going forward. There’s a little something for everyone here, so stay a while, check out our picks for the month, and hopefully find something that speaks to you!
