About General Tofu

Hey, all. I’m General Tofu, as I assume you gathered from clicking the tab here. Hopefully, this page will help you get to know me a little better!

Although I grew up enjoying anime, watching the Toonami of the late 1990’s and the early 2000’s and watching casually throughout the early 2010’s, I really came into a full-swing love of anime around 2013/2014. Coincidentally, this was around the time when I was finishing up my BA and beginning work on my MA (both English Literature). I was really into critical theory at the time, and I was pretty constantly geeking out over analyzing a short story I had read for class, etc. My interest in critical analysis kind of leaked into my enjoyment of anime, though, and it just took off from there—I found that I really enjoyed watching and thinking about anime critically. I really like examining important themes of different shows and talking about how they affect us and things of that nature, and above all, I really like to get people thinking about concepts or issues that they might not have considered, or having people think about things from a different perspective than they might be used to. Hopefully, you can expect a lot of posts like that!

Just a few smaller things about me:

  • I have a Master of Arts in English, with an emphasis in literature.
  • You can find me on MyAnimeList to get a better idea of my taste in anime.
  • I’m not super active on it, but you can find me on Twitter if you want to chat or shoot me a question.
  • I’m pretty active on Steam, too, so if you want to chat or play games, feel free to add me!

Anyway, thanks for giving this a read. I hope you enjoy what I have coming up in the future!
