Monthly Manga – I'm a Villainous Daughter, so I'm Going to Keep the Last Boss.

Ah, the classic love story.  A shy, quiet girl of common birth falls in love with a prince, far above her reach.  However, fate plays its part to bring these two together, though many troubles stand in their way.  For instance, the jealous noblewoman, betrothed to the prince finds herself at odds with this common child who opposes the nobility.  Spiteful and angry, she attempts to poison her nemesis’ love. However the nobleman and our common girl’s love for each other is too strong, and not only is the day saved but the heroine and prince are finally wed in happiness.  The nobleman woman gets her just desserts and ends up destitute and dead.

Or should she?  What was her deal, anyway?  Was she really a rich bitch or was there more to this that a new perspective would uncover?  That is where I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m Going to Keep the Last Boss comes in.  While a technical isekai, this manga likes to play uniquely and so twists a few things on their head, including certain isekai tropes.  Obviously, the story is about the jealous rival rather than the “protagonist” of the love story, who in finding out her fiance is actually in love with the protagonist and not her, finds herself suddenly remembering odd things she hadn’t before.  Like, for instance, how this is all a game and because she’s played it to death in a previous life, she knows exactly how this story will play out…

And also that she winds up dead at the end.

Log Time Podcast | Konosuba S1 Discussion — The Goddess is a Curse on this Wonderful World!

Konosuba is a great show about folks in an isekai who are absolute disasters. Given that we had this as a possible show to watch since, oh, close to when we started this podcast, this video has been a long time coming, and man, is it worth it.

Join us as we talk about some bombastic subverting of genre tropes, a cadre of useless morons with some decent character arc, and how Aqua is absolutely garbage-tier. Fight us.

[Short Thoughts] KonoSuba: God’s Blessing Upon This Wonderful World (Seasons 1 and 2) — Thus, Hilarity Ensues

When someone mentions the words “comedy anime”, this is often one of the first recently airing shows that will be brought to the table when tossing out names for recommended lists or “must watches”. Not quite an MMO anime of the years past, and not quite an isekai anime of the current years, KonoSuba manages to both cater to the fans of those types of shows, while also simultaneously poking fun at all the ridiculous concepts behind said shows. It may even be tempting to call this type of show a “parody” or a “subversion” of the genres its mimicking. Honestly though, I don’t think either of those terms really fit what this show is.

Pick of the Month – I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level

If it’s not obvious from the title, this is 100% an isekai light novel story.  Rather than your typical one, though, this one caught my attention because it wanted to go for a different approach, which will always catch my eye.  The manga (as it’s the version I ended up reading) follows our main lead Azusa Aizawa who is a businesswoman that literally works herself to death. A god or being of some sort takes pity on her and sets her up in a new life as a young mage with eternal youth/life.  Azusa decides that this will be her retirement and begins a life in another world doing… absolutely nothing. Having worked all her life since she was old enough to, she doesn’t want to do anything at all related to work. She gets by killing the “lowest level” (the world has MMO logic but it’s a fantasy realm) creatures she can find, slimes, and selling the gems they drop for the various food and resources she needs.  Being immortal, she ends up doing this for so long that she’s become quite a powerful being and even a well-respected individual in her small town thanks to her healing potions she makes in her free time. However, after Azusa finds out how truly godly powerful she’s really become, she does everything she possibly can to avoid interrupting her streak of 300 peaceful years as a hermit. Too bad someone leaked how powerful she was to the world and now creatures far and wide have come to test her might…

12 Days of Anime 2017 [Day 4]: Re:Creators – How Perception of the World Influences Our Actions

Despite the title, as obviously as this concept might seem, as your perception of the world will, of course, change what you do and how you do certain things, but let’s put it in this context for a minute: what would be the first thing you do when entering an unfamiliar place or new society environment? You’ll be more likely to pay attention to certain things to see how your new environment works, how people act, and observe all the changes from your old environment as well. Perhaps you may be more sensitive and notice new things that you never noticed before, especially if you’re from a different part of the world or entering a new country, as that’s pretty much what situation the characters of Re:Creators end up in.
